This has been an exciting year for the Armenian Jewellers Association (AJA) and the magazine. We achieved much in 2011 and looking ahead, our future could not be brighter. In this issue, we share with you our impressions on some of the places we visited and introduce you to the people we met along the way. For example, on page 32 you can read our interview with Robert Melkumyan, Design Director of Estet Jewelry House, who discusses his brilliant career and what it takes to be recognized as one of the world’s premier jewellers. From there, we catch up with Berge Abajian, owner of Bergio. A savvy businessman, patriot, and Vice-President of AJA, Abajian shares his secret to success, what it means to be Armenian, and the positive role the association has played in his life. There is also a must-read interview with Bill Boyajian, author of the book, Developing the Mind of a Leader, and we speak with Dr. Gagik Vardanyan, AJA Scientific Branch Director, who is working to uncover the secret formula of how crystals and other gemstones interact with light. Our goal this year was to showcase the eloquence and beauty of Armenian jewellery, while demonstrating the strength and unity of our industry. Nowhere was this more evident than through our participation in JCK Las Vegas in June and the much-anticipated inaugural AJA exhibition held in late September. (The event coincided with the 20th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Armenia.).
